For the main project in the 4th semester, the task was to design a product with either a long or short lifecycle, considering the principles of ecological circular economy. Based on these ideas, I created the shelving system „Facet.“ What sets this shelving system apart is its lightweight design, which helps counteract environmental impact from „gray energy.“ The shelf is designed to be assembled and disassembled, allowing it to be shipped as a „flat pack.“ By reducing the weight, the transportation of the shelf becomes more efficient and environmentally friendly. „Facet“ is constructed from three layers of 1.5 mm molded veneer. The bonding agent used is the innovative material „NeoLignot,“ a two-component product that combines a lignin-based binder with a biobased hardener. This makes the materials used in the construction of the shelf fully biodegradable. „Facet“ is modular in design and can also be used as a room divider.
