VISION ORION

VISION ORION is a project that began as a Bachelor’s thesis in the Industrial Design program in Basel and is was supported by the cultural funding organization Pro Helvetia. It focuses on exploring how a future streetlight for the city of tomorrow could look and what functions could be integrated. Vision Orion has been developed for parking lots in front of company buildings and public parking areas in cities. These are areas where people often leave their cars for extended periods, making them ideal locations for charging electric vehicles. According to recent data, there is a growing demand for charging solutions for electric vehicles in these areas. By providing an innovative solution, Vision Orion aims to aesthetically meet this demand while contributing to the sustainability of our cities. Furthermore, Vision Orion ensures a reduction in light pollution in the urban context. Equipped with sensors, the streetlight measures sky brightness, thus supporting the data exchange of the „Smart City.“ The modular system of Vision Orion makes it flexible and ready to respond to various needs of city dwellers by allowing easy module replacement.
