STUDIO BYLAND
PRODUCT DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

*Damian Byland (1991) began his professional career with an apprenticeship as a bicycle mechanic and gradually moved in the direction of design. From 2013 to 2016, he specialized in Visual Communication with a focus on photography at the F+F School of Art and Design in Zurich. During and after his studies, he worked as an assistant to still life and architectural photographer Patrik Fuchs. Through his photographic work, he honed his sense for composition, light, and objects. Following his growing interest and acquired skills, Byland went on to study Product Design at the Academy of Art and Design in Basel, graduating in 2022. His designs are characterized by an industrial and production-oriented approach, in which form and function are held in harmonious balance.

Based in Basel, STUDIO BYLAND develops projects in the field of product design – from the initial idea to a fully developed, market-ready product. The studio’s portfolio includes everyday objects such as street lights, tables and chairs, outdoor seating, spice containers, shelves, and accessories. Some of these are still in concept phase, awaiting the right manufacturing partner, while others are already in production. Each new design further refines Damian Byland’s distinctive design language, shaped by innovation, a certain element of surprise, and elegance. In his work, Byland consistently seeks a functional aesthetic – for him, the essence of a successful design.
