ABOUT
*Damian Byland (1991) began his professional career with an apprenticeship as a bicycle mechanic and gradually moved in the direction of design. From 2013 to 2016, he specialized in Visual Communication with a focus on photography at the F+F School of Art and Design in Zurich. During and after his studies, he worked as an assistant to still life and architectural photographer Patrik Fuchs. Through his photographic work, he honed his sense for composition, light, and objects. Following his growing interest and acquired skills, Byland went on to study Industrial Design at the Academy of Art and Design in Basel, graduating in 2022. His designs are characterized by an industrial and production-oriented approach, in which form and function are held in harmonious balance.

STUDIO BYLAND
PRODUCTDESIGN DEVELOPMENT
Studio Byland is a Basel-based industrial design studio developing furniture, lighting and objects from concept to production. The studio combines a precise sense for form, material and construction with a hands-on development process that includes sketching, modelmaking, prototyping and visualisation. Working across self-initiated products, custom furniture and commissioned design projects, Studio Byland creates objects that are reduced, functional and shaped by the logic of their production.
